OpenGL 3 announced

While Microsoft is still praying that its latest API, DirectX 10 will 'convince' people into buying Windows Vista the OpenGL Architecture Review Board has officially announced OpenGL 3.

Unveiled at SIGGRAPH in San Diego, California, OpenGL 3 is the official name of the project previously known as OpenGL Longs Peak. According to the Khronos Group OpenGL 3 "provides a solid, consistent and well thought out basis for the future."

Still in the works and including some features already included in DirectX 10 features like geometry shaders, OpenGL 3 is set to be finalized at the end of this month at the next meeting of the OpenGL ARB. More ammo for Carmack.
