id Software switches publishers - from Activision to Electronic Arts

Well it looks as if id Software has officially kicked Activision to the curb and climbed into bed with Electronic Arts. For the first time ever, John Carmack stepped up onto EA's stage to talk about id Software's latest endeavors: Rage and id Tech 5. Does this give Electronic Arts access to id Tech 5? I'm sure that idea is looming somewhere around EA's head. I just can't help but wonder why Activision and id Software split up. Bad morning breath? Didn't put the cap on the tooth paste? Who knows? I'm sure Activision will do just fine without them though.
