Myst Online Going Open Source

Myst Online: URU Live developer Cyan Worlds has confirmed that the online game will soon become an open source title, allowing users to freely modify the game's assets and run their own servers. "Cyan has decided to give make MystOnline available to the fans by releasing the source code for the servers, client and tools for MystOnline as an open source project," said Cyan CEO Tony Fryman to TXT. "We will also host a data server with the data for MystOnline." Fryman noted that the open source release will rolled out in stages, but that the process should begin shortly. Cyan will continue to run a single free server of the original game. Definitely applaud them for striking out in a new direction.
