Living with an SSD

So a little while back I fitted an Intel 80Gb SSD (Solid State Drive) to my desktop computer. I have just run a stopwatch on a restart. So that's closing Windows, BIOS POST then OS load. Including me typing in my nine digit password… 52 seconds! That’s to no hard drive activity showing on the HD LED. There are of course mechanical drives in my PC and some programs that auto start are on those drives. One heavy weight, Steam ‘cos that’s on the D:\ drive. A SATAII 250Gb drive I’m using to put my programs. Without the big items like Steam starting from the slower drive I think it’s somewhere in the mid 40’s. From OS load to password login is around 15 seconds.

I have witnessed the future and it’s not garlic bread!
