About time! MS force IE upgrades

There has been a long time issue with Windows and Internet Explorer. It the problem that loads of people are using old out of date versions. With the ever changing internet and it's security concerns your web browser is real important. It needs to be up to date to help protect you some some of the nasty's out there.

Now this doesn't affect guys like us that know their way around a PC, we are most likely to be using an alternative browser like Firefox or Google's Chrome. It's all the others, uncle Bob and, mum and dad...

These are the people most likely to be running Windows and not keeping upto date. These are the people we often have to help when things go bad.

Well MS are going to push out IE upgrades, "silently" that is without asking first.

This may be a concern to some business because some are using old software because of requirements of their systems. But for the general unwashed this is a good thing...

As it turns out, Google's idea of silently and automatically updating web browsers for security's sake is actually a pretty darn good idea - Chrome is pretty much always up-to-date. Microsoft agrees with this, and has announced it's going toautomatically update Internet Explorer on Windows XP, Vista and 7.

On a side note, there is a friend of my Wife's that I help sort out her PC. After the 4th or 5th time of her downloading some crapware and however many times I tell her that a web site can not tell if your computer is infected with viruses and you need to download this free software! She kept on doing it, unable to tell the difference between what a website tells her and what her AV was saying. I was almost at the point of giving up but came to the conclusions it was going to be less painful for me to teach her how to use Ubuntu than it was to get her to understand the nature of the internet.

So far I have only had to help her twice since wiping Windows off her PC and installing Ubuntu. One of those was the same in Windows as it is in Ubuntu, attaching a picture to an email. The other was easer, new printer and that just needed plugging in and took all of 3 minuets to get Ubuntu to talk to the printer.
