Cornwall gets super fast broadband trial

Trials are to go ahead of super fast broadband that could pave the way for a broadband service offering connection speeds of up to 50 Mbps for homes and small businesses in rural areas.

The trials are due to start this winter in Cornwall and will be run jointly by Virgin Media and Vtesse Networks.

This is the first trial of VDSL2 technology over great distances, which could provide a viable broadband service to the more remote communities in the UK.

Currently the plan is to provide the Virgin Media range of services, which includes TV, Phone and Broadband, to communities that are over 3.5 Kms from the nearest roadside cabinet.

If it works out, then it will open up more possibilities for those communities that are without broadband at the moment.
