BT’s Doubling Your Fibre Broadband Speed For Nothing From Tomorrow

Following in Virgin’s footsteps, BT’s just about to flick the switch on its speed-doubling effort taking BT Infinity customers up to the heady speeds of 80Mbps down and 20Mbps up. Now that’s living the fibre dream, and you don’t have to do sod all to get it either.
From tomorrow, BT Infinity customers currently topping out at up to 40Mbps will get the 80Mbps bump, while those on BT’s slower service will still get a bump to 40Mbps. Technically the speeds are up to 76Mbps and 38Mbps down and 19Mbps up – that’s Ofcom’s more realistic speed advertising enforcement working then.
BT’s boasting that its 19Mbps up is the fastest in the UK for general ability, not counting those lucky gigabit-connected of course, which I’m sure will change soon as the other networks attempt to out do each other. Considering our lives are getting increasingly cloud-based, the boosted upload speeds might be the biggest improvement. Then again, who doesn’t want to go faster and faster, and for absolutely nothing too.
