AMD/ATI vs. Intel/Nvidia Gaming Performance

The chaps over at ocaholic compared the gaming performance of AMD/ATI vs. Intel/Nvidia:
As our comparison of gaming performance between AMD/ATI and Intel/NVIDIA shows Intel/NVIDIA was able to take the lead quite clearly. The fact that the performance advatage of Intel/NVIDIA over AMD/ATI shrinked the higher resolution and quality settings were chosen, makes us guess, that if we had tested 2560 x 1920 with anti aliasing and anisotropic filtering at max AMD/ATI would have scored a bit better. But in this case if we give a point for every benchmark won the endresult is 22 to 6 for Intel/NVIDIA. At the beginning with the theoretical Futuremark benchmarks it all looked like this was going to be a neck-and-neck race between the two platform but as soon as we started with the gaming benchmarks Intel/NVIDIA almost looked like unstoppable.

Generally spoken we see that Intel/NVIDIA has been especially dominant at lower and low resolutions. Due to the fact that games at low resolutions are limited by CPU power it looks like the games are optimized for Intels Core i7 architecture.

At this point there remains the discussion about price/performance ratio. At Digitec you get the AMD-Leo- platform equipped with a ASUS Crosshair IV Formula, an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T CPU as well as a ASUS Radeon HD 5870 V2 for CHF 1'111.- (est. EUR 741.-). If you add 2 x 2 GByte of Mushkin XP3-12800 memory to the package the endprice results in CHF 1'280.- (est EUR 853.-). If we compare this with CHF 1'356 (est EUR 904.-) which is what you have to pay for the Intel/NVIDIA platform we used during our comparison, it looks like AMD/ATI finally scores. But lets do some more calculations here: The price difference between the two kits is only CHF 76.- (est EUR 51.-) which isn't much. This should bake you think about having an Intel/NVIDIA setup.
