While reading an article at Gamespot I noticed some info that might represent a change in the way COD gamers have received map releases.Infinity Ward has announced the new map pack that will to be released this spring will have four maps. Broadcast,Creek,Chinatown and Killhouse.In the past all supplemental map releases have been distributed free of charge but a statement from Infinity ward casts doubt on whether this will be the case anymore.
Gamespot Qoute:"The map pack will be available on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in the coming months for an unspecified price. But interestingly,Infinity Ward hasn't decided how the maps will be distributed on the PC, where players are much more expectant of postrelease bonus content being released for free".
Monetizing future map releases could help to ensure the viability of PC gaming and the days of "the free lunch" may be over.With PC game sales slumping and piracy taking a bite out of profits "paid for " map releases may be the better way to go for the long run.I sense that Things are changing and If we as PC gamers want to "be in the game" we had better get ready to pony up.Here is a screen shot of the Creek map.
